John Axelrod celebrates Berstein's Centennial with the Prague Radio Symphony

21 October 2018 -

Great enthusiasm for the opening concert of the Prague Symphony Orchestra season which saw John Axelrod celebrate Leonard Bernstein's Anniversary with the Chichester Psalms alongside Mahler's 4th Symphony: "John Axelrod showed a deep understanding of the composing world of both: in Mahler's Fourth Symphony he brought out the sweet and bizarre aspects, the intensity and unpredictability of the contrasts were never exaggerated, maintaining the pastoral tone; he then made Bernstein's Chichester Psalms distinctive in their deep emotion and external enchantment" writes Petr Veber on KlasikaPlus.cz

Claus Peter Flor is back to the Dallas Symphony

19 October 2018 -

Amazing success for M. Claus Peter Flor on the occasion of his return to the podium of the Dallas Symphony of which he was guest principal conductor eight years ago. Scott Cantrell on the Dallas Morning News wrote: "Claus Peter Flor hasn't lost his magic. Returning to lead the Dallas Symphony Orchestra after an eight-year absence, in a program of Wagner and Strauss, the German conductor once again demonstrated a visceral grip on musical tension and fastidious control of dynamics. Imparting never-ending urgency, it shaped crescendos and decrescendos, controlled balances and signaled important entrances. [...] In Death and Transfiguration, Flor's meticulous control of dynamics, over an enormous range, was amazing. From hushed opening lappings of strings, solemnly punctuated by timpani, to shattering climaxes, everything was gauged and balanced just so. But the effect felt wholly organic — indeed, inevitable — never contrived."
