Phenomenal Axelrod + Gorgeous Sinfonia Varsovia = Fantastic Concert

JOHN AXELOD had an amazing success at the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw conducting works by Kodaly, Beethoven and Stravinsky with the Sinfonia Varsovia.

«The audience of the Beethoven Festival experienced yesterday one thrilling concert in Warsaw’s Philharmonic Hall. [...] For a conductor, The Rite of Spring is about transparency, colors and the management of dynamics and forces. He has to combine all those elements in an energy which never diminishes: it is either dammed up or flowing forceful. John Axelrod was a master in handling the piece, and in the result the performance was absolutely terrific and electrifying.» wrote Remy Franck on Pizzicato

Daniel Smith triumphs in Genova

Standing ovation for Daniel Smith at the end of an exhuberant concert that marked his debut with the Teatro Carlo Felice Orchestra in Genova: «An amazing concert, which will remain forever in our hearts. Huge success. Sharp focus and satisfaction, complicit with a musical score of grand fascination [Ravel Suites 1&2 da Daphnis et Chloé] and a united and responsive orchestra, driven by the exuberant Daniel Smith. The young Australian conductor oozes enthusiasm and energy, with decisive but never excessive gestural expressiveness, encouraging the soloists of each section and a careful treatment of the dynamic line, obtaining successful and effective contrasts. What emerged was a diversified fresco, of superior tonal effect which was sustained throughout the complex rhythmic variations, seductive in sonority and the chorus without words adding a stroke of evocative charm on top: well-integrated, lucid, elegant yet powerful, Smith completed this symphonic painting with good balance, at first, light and sensual, then relaxed and peaceful, then even more explosive, volatile and unleashed, the perfect image of love thwarted by the two Arcadian shepherds. The ‘artistic masses’ of the Genovese theatre also affirmed the performance as optimal, particularly close-knit and driven with a unique character and manner», writes Barbara Cattelani on OperaClick

Tito Ceccherini got another extraordinary success in Toulouse

Italian conductor Tito Ceccherini got a personal outstanding success in Toulouse opening last week the new season of Théâtre du Capitole in the new production of Dallapiccola Il Prigioniero and Bartok The Bluebeard Castle, amazingly staged by Aurélien Bory and the visual artist Vincent Fortemps:

The Théâtre du Capitole has immediately invited Tito Ceccherini back to open the 2016/17 season with Berlioz Béatrice et Bénédict in October 2016 and to conduct Mozart Die Entführung aus dem Serail in February 2017.

Daniel Smith makes triumphant debut with London Philharmonic Orchestra

Conductor Daniel Smith made a triumphant debut with the London Philharmonic last week which led to an immediate reengagement in 2017.

The program included Beethoven Symphony No.1, Haydn Harpsichord Concerto with Maria Meerovitch, Rossini Il barbiere di Siviglia Overture and Mozart Symphony No.41.

The performance has been acclaimed in the media with a praiseworthy review in The Argus:
“Beethoven was delivered with sparkling rhythms and graceful pointing: the feather light touch in the Minuet is not an easy accomplishment. […] Rossini was fun and Mozart magnificent. But the palm goes to young Australian conductor Daniel Smith for his uncomplicated joy in making music, for his expansive, courtly gestures, his radiantly expressive energy – and for conducting without a score.”  wrote Louise Schweitzer

Other highlights of the 15/16 season include return to the White Night Festival with the Mariinsky Orchestra (July 19) and to the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (July 23 & 26) during EXPO. He will also make his debut with the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Turin and Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

Quartetto Prometeo gets more 5 stars!

QUARTETTO PROMETEO gets more 5 stars for its latests recordings:

5 stars! by Diapason for the monographic CD dedicated to Salvatore Sciarrino for Kairos:
« Le jeu fusionnel des Prometeo compte pour beaucoup dans une musique où l’implication totale tient lieu de virtuosité. Et dans les rare moments où la nuance est plus appuyée, c’est un écho fugace des derniers quatuors de Beethoven qui vient nous surprendre, alors que nous étions tout ouïe pour le souffle des archets, décliné en une micropalette de colorations. » (Pierre Rigaudière – Diapason-set 2013)

5 stars! by the Neue Musik Zeitung for the monographic CD dedicated to Stefano Scodanibbio for ECM:
» (Ute Schalz-Laurenze – NMZ-ott 2013)
